Good races for kids around Houston

I wanted to let you know about several races that have 1 mile fun runs for kids as well as typical 5Ks. Races aren't mandatory for Roberts Running Club members, but if you and your child are ready, Coach A encourages trying one out. Here is a great list of races around town: http://www.runguides.com/houston/runs. Even if your child isn't interested in running a straight 5K, they may like a color, bubble or inflatable run instead. Pick one and try it out with the whole family!

The West U Halloween Dash is a 5k race and 1 mile kids' fun run that will take place on Saturday, October 27. I thought some of your runners might be interested in participating because it is close and super-kids friendly.  The 5k is chipped and timed and we give awards for each age group, the 1 mile fun run isn't timed, but all finishers receive a medal when they cross the finish line.  Also this year we will have a separate division for people who want to run with a stroller or dog. We also have a costume contest at the post-race party.  I'd love to have some runners from Roberts come out.  All proceeds from the event benefit the West U Parks and Recreation Department.

Houston Turkey Trot: You’ll have to get up early this Thanksgiving if you want to participate in the second largest footrace in the city. Bring your family and friends together and join this fun and healthy Thanksgiving tradition that everyone loves. Along with the 10K event, there is also a 5K and Kid's 1K. You'll feel great running in this race, the BakerRipley Turkey Trot benefits BakerRipley, formerly Neighborhood Centers, a local non-profit that has served this region for 110 years.. Your registration fee helps support the cause, and you can also participate in fundraising if you desire. The Houston Turkey Trot is on November 22, 2018 near the Galleria.

Jingle All the WayKick-start your holiday festivities and outpace that mischievous abominable snowmonster with the whole family and join the annual Jingle all the 5K, 10K, 1K, benefiting Memorial Assistance Ministries on December 1, 2018. The Kids 1K kicks off the event and the 5K/10K fun run/walk begins at the Addicks Park and Ride. This race is a flat and fast, out-and-back course on Park Row Drive. Participants receive a festive participant bib, performance tech t-shirt, finishers medal, santa hat and jingle bell. There will also be an appearance by Santa, dancing reindeer and post-race refreshments. So, come out and show everyone your best holiday attire and spirit!
